Hello Small Farm Supporters,
WOHOOO! We DID IT! On June 30, 2022 Assembly Bill 195, was signed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom that DID indeed relieve the California Cultivators of the cultivation tax completely!
I have been waiting to close this petition in hopes to gather better news to share since the bill was passed. If you have been wondering about how much the cultivation tax cut has benefited your favorite small farmers of the Emerald Triangle and beyond, the truth of it is that it really hasn't. The hope was to gain the attention of our legislature and ensure that they knew that even with this cultivation tax cut, this really was the first of many steps needed to save the small legacy farmers. The California market is oversaturated with cannabis, and with no federal legalization, the small farmers of the Emerald Triangle still face extinction.
The short list of things we small farmers still face besides the oversupply is the broken supply chain, the retailers inability to pay, high overhead for compliance, licensing fees, any employees, and lack of market power.
The best way to stay informed and continue support for the The Emerald Triangle farmers is by checking out (and or joining) local cannabis trade associations like Humboldt County Growers Alliance, Mendocino Cannabis Alliance. Some great news oulets include the Lost Coast Outpost, and Red Headed Blackbelt.
Coming soon, I am launching a blog called “Whitethorn Rose” @ Whitethornrose.com. I will be touching on what its like to be a small farmer in the Emerald Triangle, so please stay tuned if you like blogs!
Thank you again for your support for the small family farmers, we could not have done this without you!
