Rest in Peace,
Dear Nagoor!
We are sad to report that yet another icon of Arugam Bay's history has left us.
Mr. Nagoorthambi was a decent, honest, humble and honorable man.
And there is more to his legacy:
The photo below is the last known of this remarkable man.
Can a photo can tell more than 1,000 words?
Well.
It was taken by and with a former Commissioner General of the Sri Lanka Department of Inland Revenue. (=Tax Dept.)
The location was Nagoor's humble home.
The occasion was to record his affidavit regarding his sale of what is now known as the Old Siam View Hotel at Arugam Bay.
Mr. Nagoor sold the land - for cash - to the Sudu (Dr. MTA Ne.-Miller) sitting next to the left of him.
With the cash he received a David Brown Tractor was purchased back then; last Century. Mr. Nagoor remembers.
Nagoor knew the entire story, the strange claims by others and outsiders, and he was very, very upset by what was going on.
Nagoor was outspoken, and visibly very angry with two people in particular.
(A sound recording exists, but it's too explicit to post here)
Sadly he passed away within days of this photo being taken.
Dear Mr. Nagoor:
We miss you, we respect you, we thank you, and we wish that more great men like YOU would be around in those greedy, nasty days.
