The Wrongs Amendment (Vicarious Liability) Bill 2025 which will nullify the affects of the recent Bird v DP High Court decision, has been tabled by Rachel Payne MP, and read twice. It will now be debated on 14 May 2025, from roughly 10 am - 10:45 am, although these times may change.

The Bird V DP High Court has impacted many survivor's opportunity for justice, from organisations responsible for the abuse.

If you wish to attend the debate in the Legislative Council, in support of the Bill and Rachel Payne, please note the following.

Access to Parliament House requires going though a scanning process, much like at airports. Visitors to Parliament House also need to be pre-registered by the MP whom they are visiting.

So you will need to do two things:

  1. Contact Rachel Payne's office to let her know of your attendance, so your name is added to the list.

    Contact details are rachel.payne.mp@parliament.vic.gov.au or (03) 9651 8972.

  2. Arrive early, by 9:45 AM at the latest, to allow time to pass through the security process.

Once you're inside Parliament House, go to the reception desk, provide your name and tell them you are a visitor of Rachel Payne MP.

Let's show our support, to put pressure on the Victorian Government to get the Bill accepted!
