The Victorian Survivors and Supporters lunch at the Sandringham Hotel on 17th July provided the individuals present the opportunity to advocate for themselves and others, engaging Zoe Daniel MP in conversations about what they would like to see change. The outcomes our petition seeks was included in these conversations, and we will share Ms Daniel's response when we receive it.

On 24th July perspectives of the Beaumaris community, and survivor lived experience and existing peer led supports in the community, were shared with Victorian Department of Education senior executives and management, responsible for the implementation of some of the recommendations of the Beaumaris Board of Inquiry.  We are pleased that this was an initial engagement of many, which will enable community and survivor advocacy for the outcomes our petition seeks, in addition to how the recommendations of the Board of Inquiry are implemented, to be fully explored and discussed. Feedback from the Department of Education included

"how incredibly powerful your insights are, and how important it is for us to hear from you."

During the week, we also heard from the office of Catherine King MP, the federal member for Ballarat, with whom we've been in contact regarding the outcomes our petition seeks, in addition to Ms King attending a Victorian Survivors and Supporters lunch in Ballarat.

Ms Rachel Payne MP, the Victorian member for South-Eastern Metropolitan who is already supporting the outcomes our petition seeks, is also keen to engage with the Victorian Survivors and Supporters community as well.

Advocacy is a powerful tool for change, enabling individuals and communities to address and rectify injustices. Also giving individuals a voice in challenging systemic barriers to needed services and supports.
