So glad you all enjoyed the Finlay compilation in the update last week. He is an absolute cracker.

In more unpleasant news, we still await the disclosure of the Key information that is held by Vattenfall. As we informed you, the public Inquiry directed Vattenfall to release to us, details of their Wildcat survey work which they carried out as part of their Environmental Impact Assessment for the planned windfarm. This information has never seen the light of day, it hasn’t been open to independent, expert scrutiny. This is of course inherently wrong for a development carried out by a partnership between the Scottish Government and Vattenfall, which is a company owned by the Swedish Government.

The latest delaying tactic is to try and tie us up in knots with a Non Disclosure Agreement. Basically a gagging order. More sinister is the fact that they are trying to be selective about who in our organisation sees the data. For example they are trying to get our legal team to agree that our most experienced wildcat biologist, will not have access to the information, but that our solicitor can see it. This is of course a pathetic attempt to both waste time but crucially, to prevent anyone with specialist wildcat knowledge scrutinising the data. It is totally farcical and it is easy to see through their tactics.

Hopefully soon the Inquiry will step in and ensure the documents are released. They must be pretty damning if Vattenfall are going to such lengths to withhold them.

And all this in a week where governments are coming together to commit to conserving nature and mitigating climate change in an open and transparent way.

Just to reiterate, we are totally in favour of renewable energy, it’s just madness that it could be at the expense of the future existence of the Scottish Wildcat. There are many alternative sites for this windfarm.

We will not give up and we continue our fight to give the Wildcat a voice and stop the destruction of its forest home.
