Petition updateSave Australian literature: stop parallel importation of booksJoin the #BooksCreate campaign

Australian Society of Authors

May 19, 2016
The ASA would like to thank all 5500+ writers, illustrators and supporters of Australian books who have taken the time to sign our petition.
There has now been a draft report published by the Australian Government Productivity Commission (PC) on Intellectual Property Arrangements. The PC has unfortunately recommended not just that the government should allow parallel importation of books, but also reduce the term of copyright to just 15-25 years from date of creation, and allow broad and unclear "fair use" exceptions to copyright law.
If taken up, these recommendations will put the future of Australian books and Australian authors at significant risk. The book industry has come together to form the campaign #BooksCreate and we urge you to join us in expressing your opposition to the PC recommendations.
