Friends, we had a small victory in the Federal Court today. Justice Moshinsky just ruled that little Tharunicaa’s asylum claim wasn't given “procedural fairness”. This is good news, but it doesn’t mean our friends are any closer to coming home. The Prime Minister could bring them home today though, if he wanted to.
Today, can you help me show how much love we all have for Priya, Nades and the girls by sharing a photo of yourself at home and “checking-in” to Christmas Island on Facebook, with the hashtag #hometobilo?
Most people are shocked to learn that the courts have no power to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela. The very best we can hope for today is that Tharunicaa’s case is sent back to immigration officials for consideration.
Our Prime Minister has the power to step in and instruct his ministers to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela at any time. We never needed this long court battle. This could all be over with the stroke of a pen.
That’s why we’re asking you to please make your own sign (or even a home-made Biloela cockatoo!) - remember to use the hashtag #hometobilo and make your post ‘public’ so everyone can see it!
With Australia in lockdown, perhaps more of us are beginning to understand what our beautiful family have been going through since they were taken from Biloela and locked away more than two years ago.
In this time when we are all staying at home, it is more important than ever that we keep speaking up until Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa are safely home in Biloela, where they belong.
Remember, when you share your photo on Facebook with the hashtag #hometobilo, be sure to ‘check-in’ to Christmas Island (instructions here) and change the audience for your photo from ‘Friends’ to ‘Public’ (instructions here) so everyone can see it.
With hope,
Angela
