Thank you for showing interest in opposing the proposed cell phone tower at the Hawkwood Petro Canada and 7-Eleven. Telus has gone ahead with the proposal to the City so it is important to keep working to make the voices of the community heard.

I have copied a letter at the bottom of this message from one of the Hawkwood residents, Lisa Weleschuk, at lweles@telus.net. She has started a legal injunction against this tower and has asked that I share this information. If you would like to help her or would like more information, please email her directly. She needs to get this going as soon as possible, so please reach out to her right away.

Another important point to note is Telus has recently announced that they will be selling off their cell towers in the future, which makes me skeptical of any promises they make regarding this one in Hawkwood: https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/telus-exploring-dedicated-infrastructure-entity-and-strategic-investment-to-supercharge-its-next-gen-wireless-networks-872552995.html

Please keep sharing the petition and making our voices heard.

Thanks,

Kathleen

Fighting the 5G Cell Tower 407 Hawkwood Blvd NW - COURT INJUNCTION

Hello Neighbours,

Many of us have been petitioning and fighting the 5G Cell Tower proposed by Telus in the Hawkwood Plaza. Distance matters with radiation. The closer you are the stronger the exposure of electromagnetic radiation.  Putting a 30 metre tower across the street from the elementary school, and beside the daycare and senior center is the worst possible location I can imagine, never mind for the businesses in the plaza and local residents.

I engaged a lawyer (Bath-Sheba, Ergonomy Law) and served Telus a Warning and Objection Letter hoping to stop them, but they are still pursuing their proposal to the City. My lawyer has now suggested the community gets together for a court injunction against this tower and Telus. It would essentially act like a legal restraining order.

The more residents and businesses on the Injunction request, the better, as it would serve as the voice of the community.  We are more powerful in numbers. It would also keep court costs down, as we would split the cost on a joint retainer. The more people, the lower the cost to all participants. I am also starting a GoFundMe page, and any funds raised will be split equally to all injunction participants to recuperate costs. For businesses this would most likely be a tax write off.

Estimated cost is $6500. I already have several people. The goal is 20 or more. Please consider joining, as my lawyer advised this is our best chance at stopping this tower, and also we can apply for a permanent injunction so we won’t have to fight every few years.

Please join our injunction and make it MORE powerful with your voice!!  We are much stronger in numbers and as a team!

Please e-mail me if you would like to support the fight!!

Fighting for the community,

Lisa Weleschuk
