Yesterday was the first time that both sides got around a very large table at Westminster City Hall - our very first meeting in what will be the protracted process leading to the Public Inquiry, involving a very large number of players. The Inquiry itself is meant to start on May 27th, and we will be sitting for 12 long days.
On our side were the legal team from Westminster Council, a team from London Parks and Gardens Trust and another one headed by Baroness Deech. While we all overlap in our reasons for repudiating this scheme, we and LPGT will be focusing on the outrageous choice of site for the Learning Centre and Memorial, while Baroness Deech, whose strong articles in the press have been a focus for the large Jewish contingency, will be stating that another fancy building acts only as a tick-box exercise for the Government - in reality achieving very little in the fight anti-Semitism. We all agree that this building will destroy the character of the park and irreparably affect the heritage buildings and monuments around it.
Our resolve to proceed and win is unshakeable...but we face a huge mountain to climb.
Regrettably, WE NEED YOUR HELP.
In order to counter the army of highly-paid legal professionals on the other side we need to take on our own brilliant strategists and technical advisors. It is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
Please help us, as much as you can afford. IF EACH OF YOU DONATES £10, we will manage. IF HALF OF YOU DONATE £20, we will manage.
