Hello dear signers of the petition,

The good news is that in just a week and a half, our petition to save the third floor of the Royal BC Museum has garnered over 300 signatures!!!

That is 10 times as many signatures as those present in the original petition that actually led to the foundation of the museum in the first place!

The bad news is that the museum administration feeling nervous as a result of being exposed by the disregarded and unconsulted public on the museum’s anti-democratic actions, has actually now bumped up the date of closing the third floor galleries from January 2nd to December 31st and they have already begun dismantling exhibits in both the Becoming BC Gallery and in the First Nations Gallery even before those galleries have been closed to the public.

They do not want to give the public a chance to protect their heritage, before they serve its decimation to them as a fait accomplis.

The other bad news is in the following title: “Victoria council rejects motion asking museum to keep 3rd floor open.”

https://www.timescolonist.com/local-news/victoria-council-rejects-motion-to-ask-museum-keep-floor-open-during-redesign-4780009

The news is shocking, but given their recent dismal track record not exactly surprising...

However, let’s all give a round of applause for councillors Geoff Young and Stephen Andrew for standing up for our history and heritage and voting to preserve the third floor!

As for the mayor and the rest of the council, along with their previous actions against history and heritage, they have cemented their own place in it as petty vandals and Herostratuses.

The museum administration has again shown utter contempt for the taxpayers that provide much of their hefty salaries, while hiding and failing to preserve the province’s history, the opposite of their paid-for function, of which they have failed.

They didn’t give you the chance to vote or offer input, so this is our best opportunity to provide those by signing the petition and leaving comments about how we think and feel about the destruction of history and heritage.

300 dedicated individuals standing up for their heritage can make a key difference, as was historically demonstrated at Thermopylae.

However to really get our message across, 500-1000 signatures is likely to garner some media coverage to Save the Third Floor.  With media attention the museum cannot ignore the public that finances them.

At present only a minute portion of the public has seen this petition, but if we show this to friends and family and they sign as well, the numbers will increase significantly and many more people will be able to have their thoughts counted, written down, and put forth to the museum.

Please if you haven’t already done so, send the petition to all those who can make a difference.
