The fight goes on......

As you have probably read in the news, Gary Neville and his cronies have confirmed what we knew all along - the "nothings decided yet, plans are still being formulated" was just cover and they fully intend to demolish the Sir Ralph and replace it will two identikit glass towers and what they describe as "high quality public realm" - i.e. a paved square surrounded by chain bars and restaurants with no history or character. Manchester City Council has refused the second application to list the pub as an Asset of Community Value - while their report concludes that the pub most certainly is an Community Asset, they have say there is no realistic possibility of it remaining so because developers want to knock it down. In our opinion this is a deeply concerning precedent - the pub could very realistically remain standing if the council refused planning permission for the development. The fight goes on. The developers still have to get planning permission - this petition will be part of our calls for permission to be refused. There are signs that public opinion is turning against Manchester City Council's seemingly endless quest to turn over every area of the city with any history at all left to developers - if this grows to the point where councillors think their seats are at risk, we may see U-turns. There are tentative plans to see if the pub can be taken down and rebuilt brick by brick elsewhere in the Peterloo area. Please continue to share.
