A RECIPE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RACISM
By Angela Levasseur
Total time: varies
Prep: however long it takes to cultivate environmental racism
Cook: however long it takes to enact environmental racism
Yields: 1 HUGE serving
Ingredients:
1 cowardly Minister
1 rotten crown corporation
1 extremely right-wing political party
1 premier who does not care about Indigenous people or their rights
An entire province that is willing to turn a blind eye while the land and water is destroyed in Northern Manitoba
A highly controlled mainstream media that wants to perpetuate the problem
1 cup of “it’s not my problem they are just Indians”
2 cups of overt racism
4 cups of disrespect for mother earth
1 teaspoon narrow-mindedness
3 rotten eggs
2 cups of mercury
2 cups of ethnocentrism
6 cups of systemic racism
⅓ cup fake apologies
2 cups of outright lies from politicians
An infinite supply of hatred for Indigenous people
Directions:
Prepare the batter by mixing 3 rotten eggs, 1 cup of “it’s not my problem they are just ‘Indians,’” and 2 cups of overt racism.
Dump the four cups of disrespect for mother earth in all at once.
Using a whisk, briskly beat the ethnocentrism and systemic racism into the mixture.
Brainwash the people of the province and drench the entire province in the batter.
Deep fry the province in mercury.
Season the province with one heaping tablespoon of narrow-mindedness.
Have the cowardly Minister, the rotten crown corporation, the extremely right-wing political party, and the premier “who does not care about Indigenous people or their rights” take turns sprinkling the province with their hasty apologies and outright lies.
Finally, use the infinite supply of hatred for Indigenous peoples, and the environmental racism you have created to suppress and control the mainstream media. If desired, use ethnocentric viewpoints to justify the destruction of mother earth.
Tell yourself, “it’s not my problem they are just ‘Indians…”
Enjoy!
