Great News for Benson! Thank You All!
On June 16, 2026, a spokesperson for Aluminum Dynamics (ADI) issued a formal statement confirming that the company will not proceed with construction in Benson and has instead selected an alternative location. ADI formally announces end to Benson recycling facility
Today, June 22, the Herald/Review published a roundtable interview with AZ Attorney General Kris Mayes. During the interview, Mayes confirmed that her office had maintained a nuisance investigation ever since holding a Town Hall in Benson and was prepared to file a nuisance lawsuit against ADI if necessary, but is glad it did not come to that.
Mayes stated: "As long as they stay out of Benson, I'm done. But if they try to come back, we are ready to fight, and I think the people of Benson want me to be ready to fight. I'm so proud of the people of Benson for fighting for yourselves and for proving that a small town can beat a big corporation." Mayes wasn’t anti-ADI but was against their Benson location

While I am grateful for this outcome, I remain disappointed by the lack of meaningful leadership and responsiveness shown by many local and county officials throughout this process. Too often, residents felt dismissed, marginalized, or treated as obstacles rather than stakeholders with legitimate concerns about the future of their community.
My hope is that this experience serves as a lesson for those entrusted with public office. Listening to constituents, respecting public input, and engaging in transparent decision-making are not optional responsibilities; they are fundamental obligations of public service.
This outcome demonstrates that informed, engaged citizens can make a difference. Benson's residents proved that a small community, united by a common purpose, can stand up for itself and be heard. Thank you to those who live beyond Benson and supported us in so many ways as well!
