Friends,
On behalf of our neighbours, I want to convey our sincere thanks for your incredible support of our petition. As I write, the petition has been:
- Signed by more than 8,000 supporters
- Viewed almost 25,000 times
- Shared more than 700 times
- Promoted by almost 240 of you
- Funded to more than $1,500
I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on what we are also doing on the ground. We are:
- Actively (daily) engaging with all levels of government to immediately intervene to protect boarding house residents to:
- Freeze rent increases
- Comply with safety and amenity standards
- Buy the Selwyn Street Boarding Houses from the developer – LFD Homes
- Keep our neighbours and the many boarding house residents across the city safe and secure in their homes
2. Working with like-minded Sydney Councillors – Yvonne Weldon, Sylvie Ellsmore and Linda Scott to support their active advocacy at Council
3. Working with selected Mayoral candidates in September’s election to enlist their support
4. Keeping our media contacts updated and seeking additional coverage via multiple TV, radio, print and online outlets. We have had coverage over the last week or so in 2 of Sydney’s leading news mastheads – Sydney Morning Herald and 9 News as well as online news publications - City Hub, Sydney City News, Paddo Papers.
5. Letterboxing both our local and adjacent areas with our campaign material
6. Hanging banners and posters across the community – calling for the Council’s immediate intervention
7. Most importantly of all, we continue to stay close to Ray, Steve, Alfie, Graham, Simon and the rest of our neighbours. The stress caused by the uncertainty is immense as you can imagine, and they greatly appreciate your strong support.
Please continue to support and promote our petition – it is a powerful way for us to ensure we keep our neighbours safe and secure in their homes.
Thank you all again,
Mike
