Thank you all for adding your names and comments to this petition—As spring comes to a head and bears are out of hibernation, we’ve got to keep working hard to keep them safe. Your help is essential to this process—making our collective voices heard on the pressure of this issue is critical at this time.
Myself and the Yaak Valley Forest Council are reaching out for your assistance in reaching out to Montana’s officials and urging them to reroute the Pacific Northwest Trail.
Please submit your comments or concerns to (or call) Senator Tester’s office. Regardless of which state you reside in, you can still contact Senator Tester. Contact information is listed at the end of this message for other representatives. Please make your letters and calls positive in nature, stressing the positive aspects of a southern reroute. These include:
- 4 trail towns instead of two, which is better for hikers for supplies, emergencies, etc.; a more scenic route with 10 high point summits instead of 6; far fewer trail miles in core grizzly habitat; great for the local economies of Libby and Troy.
The Yaak Valley Forest Council page on the PNT has updated maps and route information—please contact our staff if you have further questions or need more information. YVFC member Tara Morrison will answer any questions you may have or talk more about the PNT issue, reachable at 651-238-6957 or tara@mobilemothernature.com
Thank you for your support of the Yaak and its grizzlies--it is greatly appreciated!
