The National Glass Centre in Sunderland has been a source of local pride and international importance since it was opened by King Charles in 1998.
The owners Sunderland University want to demolish the building starting in 2026 when they close the doors for the last time. 35,000 people have signed a petition and written to MP’s to sound the alarm that we are about to lose something that is priceless to the research and development of Glass.
In a stunning act of cultural vandalism the entire facility will be closed without any alternative for at least a few years. Not only is demolition terrible for the environment but the skilled creatives will likely not be able to stick around to wait for their much reduced town centre offering.
We are at our last ditch attempt to SAVE THE NATIONAL GLASS CENTRE.
