Dear Petitioners, I hope you are all well, This is just to update you that I have been given the new date of 24th April, after 7 pm (exact time to be confirmed in due course) to present the Save Ealing Libraries petition at the next Ealing full Council meeting. I requested a postponement to present the petition yesterday, Tuesday, 20th February, due to prearranged commitments and having received short notice by Ealing’s Democratic Office in confirming the exact arrangements for the meeting. If you are local to Ealing and/or available to attend this meeting on 24th April, then please do join us, in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, New Broadway, Ealing, W5 2BY. Ealing Council needs to understand that the strong show of support demonstrated by the 3,165 signatures to date and various associated commentaries, from within and beyond the Ealing community will not dissipate or weaken. With the local elections looming this May, it’s so important that we do not allow ourselves to be seduced by the sweet promises of electioneering to keep us nullified, only to find that a few months or years on down the line after the elections, the Council will be selling off its libraries’ silver once again to the detriment of the needs of its staff, users, and wider community. Let us pack up the Chamber and continue to fight to ensure that our librarians’ jobs and 13 libraries are protected on a permanent and not temporary basis, and will never be outsourced to a private contractor again!!!
