Bad news for the 8th Ave Neighboryway

Hey y'all. Bad news on the 8th Avenue Neighborway. Per Supervisor Fewer's most recent newsletter, SFMTA called a meeting to discuss this project finally, and we're hearing it's to support a scaled-back version of just speedbumps, paint, and stop signs to calm 8th Avenue. The traffic diverters may be scrapped from this version entirely. Instead of a bold plan to lead the way as the first neighborhood in the city with diverters, we get a plan which, while it will hopefully help, does little to address the fact that we really need to be rethinking our street design as we talk about complete streets. Paint, as any person who bikes here can attest, is not infrastructure and it just doesn't do enough to protect those of us walking and biking on our streets. There will be a meeting on January 31st from 6-8 pm at Zion Lutheran Church and School, 495 9th Avenue. Please attend if you can. Unfortunately, many great bike advocates will be at the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's all-member meeting occurring at the same time on the opposite side of the city, so it'd be really great if those of you here who support the project in its original form could stop by to show there are folks in the Richmond who support bold measures to address our unsafe streets.
