There Is Still A Chance To "Save Twin Peaks"

THE WAR IS NOT OVER, ONLY THE FIRST BATTLE!

WARNING - THE PORTOLA GATE IS NOW OPEN to 24 hour traffic! If you walk along southern Twin Peaks Blvd, PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR THE CARS AND TOUR BUSES! WALK AS CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD AS POSSIBLE!!! Or if you are physically able, use the very steep hiking trail instead of the road.

Thank you everyone for your support! But we failed in our combined efforts to Decrease Traffic through the southern access Portola Gate as did the efforts of three other Twin Peaks community groups to achieve the same goal by Opening the northern access Burnett Gate. Unfortunately the SFMTA Board Of Directors unanimously voted on March 2nd to keep the Burnett Gate permanently closed to vehicles, rerouting all northern gate traffic through the now always open southern Portola Gate.

Everyone knows this will create parking, traffic, pollution, crime, and pedestrian safety nightmares. The SFMTA Board of Directors publicly commented on exactly these same concerns at the open meeting. It is evident from the Board's remarks they were fully aware of the flaws in the "Twin Peaks For All Staff Recommendation" but they approved the Staff Recommendation under the excuse they can always make changes as the project goes ahead and "correct any problems it encounters along the way". This very statement shows the Board is negligent in their job responsibilities as Urban Planners when they acquiesced to SFMTA Dir. Tumlin without calling him to task and resolve up-front all of the issues that were already self-evident to them. 

Though we lost the first battle, we are moving ahead to force the SFMTA to work on a properly conducted SFMTA plan or amend the current Staff Recommendation. In the interim we want the SFMTA to reverse their decision and return to the original "Pre-COVID Twin Peaks Blvd" configuration with both gates open. We are trying to pressure San Francisco Supervisors to make sure a new or amended plan factors in the recommendations of the local Twin Peaks community.
