THIS is how our Mayor responds to a humanitarian DISASTER created by the elimination of 10k units of affordable housing since 2010? $12.5 million for an "intake center/shelter in TWO YEARS? Plans for "interim shelter" in a FEW MONTHS? It took less than a week to provide Emergency Shelter at Qualcomm Stadium for 1000s made homeless by wildfires in 2007. "San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer last week announced that the city plans to spend $12.5 million on an intake center that will house a few hundred homeless people and assign them case workers to help lead them to self-sufficiency. "The opening of the center may be a couple of years away, so the city also has plans to create more interim housing for homeless people somewhere downtown. Details of that plan are expected to be released in a few months."
