Jack's Law

What wonderful news yesterday that Jack's Law is coming into force from April! We couldn't be happier for Lucy, Jack's mum, who has campaigned tirelessly for TEN years to bring about this important legislative change for bereaved parents.
Currently there are no legal requirements on employers to offer any bereavement leave. Time off is at the discretion of the employer. The huge difference with leave being "statutory" is that, like sick pay, companies can claim back from the government meaning that small and medium sized companies aren't penalised for looking after their staff. While many parents will say that two weeks is not enough time and we completely agree, this is a huge step in the right direction.
A couple of years ago we launched this petition to get the same deal for people whose life partner dies. If you agree that widows and widowers also need more than the current average of a couple of days' paid leave then please sign our petition in the hope we can get a similar law passed.
