Question about Ecocide Law support asked in the Dáil

Jennifer Whitmore TD (Soc Dems) raised the need for Ecocide laws in Dail on Thursday 11/11/21.
She says

"It is clear that our current Environmental laws to regulate, minimise and reduce harm to the environment have so far
proved inadequate to halt the current ecological disaster.
A law is needed that bans the most serious environmental harm
altogether, not just regulates it. This law must recognise that the individuals and corporations most culpable for serious environmental harm, are criminally liable and bear superior
responsibility.
There is an international movement afoot to introduce Ecocide legislation. A legal definition has been proposed by an Independent Expert Legal Panel for the Definition of
Ecocide (IEP) as a potential 5th international crime to sit alongside genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crime of aggression in the Rome Statute of the International
Criminal Court."

She raised this with the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Dail and asked that Ireland take a lead role in progressing this important legislation. She will meet with the Minister to discuss this issue further
