Our Freedom of Information request is still in progress to expose the truth behind this misleading and deceptive process.
As a small win, we have obtained a copy of a letter Mayor Mark Riley sent to the previous Local Government Minister Shaun Leane.
The letter reveals that in fewer than 6 days the Mayor and CEO had already (oddly quick compared to their usual standard) worked out what a process would look like for renaming. It suggests that they must have known about this issue prior to 19 November.
Moreover, they lied about the agreed community consultation process that would take place. It reveals that they promised the community would be involved in name suggestions.
The community as we know never got an option to suggest names. They also got no say on the recommended names from the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Heritage Aboriginal Corporation Elders and representatives. We are yet to get a response from them on their involvement and agreeance with this process.
More lies are exposed from a council that refuses to provide good governance and transparency. Not on our watch.
