Thank you so much to the 70,000 wonderful people who have have already signed and shared this petition. We have already made a phenominal impact!

Last week, headlines heralded the announcement of Coke's sponsorship of COP27. This week, global news outlets are decrying the decision, reporting on this petition and the response from NGOs. We have successfully re-written the narrative!

COP27 organisers have not commented, but a Coke spokesperson told the BBC:

“We are prepared to do our part and have set ambitious goals for our business, starting with helping to collect and recycle a bottle or can for every one we sell – regardless of where it comes from – by 2030,”

“In 2020 we signed a joint statement urging United Nations member states to adopt a global treaty to tackle the plastic waste issue through a holistic, circular economy approach … Our support for Cop27 is in line with our science-based target to reduce absolute carbon emissions 25% by 2030, and our ambition for net zero carbon emissions by 2050.”

What they fail to mention is that, as recently as 2021, leaked documents show they were still actively fighting mandatory waste collection and deposit return schemes worldwide.

So, do we believe the blah, blah, blah? Do we hell!

We need even more people power to combat this greenwash. Please keep signing and sharing far and wide. Together, we can shout so loudly that these faceless organisations hear us.

Love and rage,

Georgia
