Dear petition supporters,

A quick update and a heartfelt thank you for your incredible support.

As many of you know, Wodonga Council recently voted not to make a submission to the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) against the new pokies proposal.

Sadly, this decision runs contrary to their own ‘Gambling Harm Preventative Policy’ and their ‘Gambling Harm Preventative Action Plan 2024–2028’.

Unsurprisingly, there’s been a strong community response to the vote, and we have received many messages of support from people who feel let down by this outcome.

In light of this, your support is even more important. We have continued raising awareness, including through an interview you can listen to here:

The petition is now at nearly 300 signatures. Importantly, it will form part of a formal submission to the VGCCC being made by Gateway Health and Upper Murray Family Care. So even though Council has chosen silence, our community’s voice will be heard at the state level.

Please keep sharing the petition; every signature makes our collective stand stronger.

Thank you again for standing with us. Together, we are showing that the community does not accept decisions that ignore gambling harm prevention.

Regards,

The Gateway Health / Upper Murray Family Care teams
