Despite declaring victory on getting the State Swim Meet back to Columbus as the State Indoor Winter Games for Special Olympics Ohio, there is more work to be done to get things back to the way it used to be and moving forward on getting events reinstated plus adding new sports to the program. I have been writing to Jessica on getting the State Swim Meet back as a separate event again because athletes should not have to choose between basketball, cheerleading, or swimming; and getting Regional Bowling Tournaments reinstated along with bringing back the State Team/Unified Bowling Tournaments back in the Fall and ending League Play because it was huge mistake that disenfranchised the athletes and their families, coaches, and providers. The Flag Football, Golf, Softball tournaments are separate events and the State Swim Meet need to be returned as a separate event in December or late March-early April. Also, I have suggested moving the bowling event from Bowlero Sawmill (formerly AMF Sawmill Lanes) to HP Lanes in Columbus because it is the closet bowling center to The Ohio State University campus area and the proprietor has spent millions of dollars in getting the center Wheelchair Accessible and more. I would like to see the Long Course Swimming (50 meters) event back at the State Summer Games because that should never have been discontinued along with the Skating events like Roller Skating in the Summer and Figure & Speed (ice) Skating at the Winter Games (Indoor or Outdoor). Former Special Olympics Ohio employee Jeff Vermillion told me at the 2024 State Summer Games that they used to have Cycling (Bike) in the program and that would be returned too as a event at the Fall Games.
