parkrun has replied to our open letters:
Wednesday 6 March
Dear Will,
Thank you for your letters on 20 February and 4 March.
We have seen the petition and we are listening to the feedback we receive.
It is a sign of a passionate and vibrant global community that parkrunners find interest and inspiration in all sorts of information connected with participation (both our own and that of others). Indeed there is likely no end to the data and information that might be of interest, but that doesn’t mean it is right for parkrun to publish it.
We are in no doubt that the removal of some records is a proportionate and appropriate step for the charity and in line with our mission to transform health and happiness by empowering people to come together to be active, social and outdoors.
Above all else, whilst parkrun will continue to evolve and change in the years ahead, we all remain committed to the promise of it being free, for everyone, forever.
We accept that this announcement didn’t go as we would have liked from a communications and engagement perspective and the result has been a lot of misunderstanding, misinformation and upset - all of it entirely understandable.
Thank you again for taking the time to get in touch and for all you do for parkrun.
Sincerely,
Russ Jefferys - CEO
