On May 10th, the PPS school board agreed to move forward with the recommendations of the PPS Safety Task Force, to include a partnership with the Portland Police Bureau to rebuild and reimagine the Youth Services Division's SRO program with a pilot to program to be deployed in Fall 2023 as follows:

Designated law enforcement officers will be

● Available and visible near schools to help deter criminal activity; create clear parameters for engagement

● Immediately available to respond to community violence impacting school community

● Trained in youth restorative and healing-centered practices

● Create positive relationships with students, staff, families and community

● With direct communication with school leaders and safety personnel

The renewed partnership with PPB and return of police presence is a petition victory and vital first step towards protecting our school communities and rebuilding relationships with law enforcement!
