As a group of concerned citizens, we have gathered 130 signatures as of today, expressing our deep concern about the current state of family law in Washington State. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support we continue to receive. Our mission is personal and stems from our experiences with domestic violence and the legal system's response especially when children are involved.
Family law, as it currently stands, often fails to adequately protect victims of domestic violence. This issue is not unique to Washington State. According to a report by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence in their lifetime nationwide.
We believe that family law needs reforming so that it better protects victims and holds abusers accountable. This includes ensuring that custody decisions prioritize children's safety over parental rights when there has been a history of abuse.
Please know you are not alone.
