Derbyshire Wildlife Trust are committed to revitalising this Grade II listed building the old waiting room at Matlock Bath Station will provide a much-needed gateway for visitors to Matlock Bath in the heart of the Derwent Valley. It will become a space of discovery, a centre to learn new skills and an arena for celebrating local wildlife and local heritage. If that's not enough, you'll also be able to grab a top notch cuppa and slice of cake with all profits supporting Derbyshire wildlife!
Built in the chalet style, as Matlock Bath was nicknamed ‘little Switzerland’ in Victorian times, the Whistlestop first opened in 1849 and closed due to the Beeching cuts in 1967. The building has survived remarkably intact and whilst many of the original features remain the leaky ceiling, damp walls and broken windows leave us with merely a sleeping beauty.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust has had an anonymous donation of £4,000 and they will now be able to restore this building
