Dear everyone
Please keep sharing this petition with neighbours, friends and family and asking them to sign it. Tell them that we need their support now
It is really important that the petition keeps its momentum so that Kingston Council understands the importance of The Kingfisher and the facilities that it contains to communities across The Royal Borough
I have given Kingston Council notice of my intention to present this petition to Full Council on 12 October 2021, the next date on which Full Council meets
I have asked that the Council take no action to demolish The Kingfisher Leisure Centre until the petition has been discussed by Full Council at this time. I am also exploring other options to help stop the council's demolition plans with no guarantee or firm funding or timing for replacement facilities
The more people who have signed this petition by 12 October 2021, the more pressure we can put on Kingston Council to change their plans
The Council's guidance on petitions states that:
"If a petition contains a total number of valid signatures equivalent to at least 1% of the number of registered local government electors as at 15th February each year (based on the electoral register at 15th February 2020, currently a total of 1,212) it will be considered at a meeting of the full Council"
This statement means that the Council is obliged to consider this petition at Full Council on 12 October 2021 so long as more than about 1,200 people who are local electors have signed the petition
Let us leave Kingston in no doubt as to the strength of opposition to their plans
