A partial Victory! Walter Rodney Commission gets more time to complete report- Guyana Prime Minister

With the Walter Rodney Commission of Inquiry (WRCOI) report due today 30th November, Guyana’s Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo last night, Sunday, announced that the WRCOI has been granted two more weeks to complete and submit its report on the bomb-blast death of renowned Guyanese historian, Dr Walter Rodney. Prime Minister Nagamootoo however, would not be drawn on whether this period would allow for public hearings where key witnesses could testify; a partial but important victory. Guyana’s Minister of Governance, Raphael Trotman, last Friday received in Georgetown, Guyana, the 1,000 + signature #Justice4WalterRodney Campaign petition - delivered there by Karen De Souza, Red Thread social justice activist, on the UK based campaign’s behalf. Five people also delivered the petition to Guyana’s London High Commission. Commissioners now have until Tuesday 15th December to submit their report. And those who care about the Rodney legacy - inside and outside Guyana, now also have two more weeks to alert and prepare themselves and their networks to respond appropriately to the Commission’s verdict, come 15th December.
