Lakewood's Planning Director has decided that the final decision on approval of the Belmar Park West apartment complex directly abutting Belmar Park will be referred to the city planning commission once the planning department completes their current review process and makes their final recommendation(s) for the planning commission to consider.
There is no date when the planning department will render their final recommendation(s) for review by the planning commission although this could still happen in 2024.
Once this referral to the planning commission actually happens, the commission will hold at least one public hearing on the matter.
When the public hearing is scheduled, please be ready to attend the hearing in-person in Lakewood, Colorado and step up to the microphone to provide a public comment in support of the Eminent Domain option described with this petition.
Depending on what the planning department recommends, you also may want speak against or in favor of their findings.
The hearing will use a quasi-judicial format which is much more formal than the typical planning commission meeting. The planning commissioners assume the role of judges and the proceeding outcome may be appealed to a court with jurisdiction.
If you have a legal background and are aware of legal points relevant to this matter, your comments would be especially appropriate. In that case, please consider also sending a letter to the planning commission to assure your comments will be entered in the hearing record.
