GALE BREWER WRITES TO DOT COMMISSIONER RODRIGUEZ ABOUT OUR CROSSWALK

This update is for July 22-August 13.
THIS IS A BIG UPDATE!
I write this update primarily for the parents and caregivers of kids who attend either the ECSF or YMCA schools. You are the primary stakeholders in all of this and today I am reporting to you that we are making big progress in our quest to make this crosswalk safe for your kids by Labor Day.
Gale Brewer, NYC City Couselperson for the 6th District where the two schools are located, wrote a letter to NYC DOT Commissioner Rodriguez on August 2nd, "on behalf of residents and institutions" regarding our crosswalk, quoting from the comments to our petition, and putting a deadline on DOT to take mitigation measures "before schools open in September." She also cc'd Rob Parsons at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School and Sharon Levy at the YMCA. I also forwarded a copy of this letter to the other secondary stakeholders and the political entities on my list, including the Central Park Conservancy, and posted it at the crosswalk.
Ms. Brewer also sent the Commissioner a copy of my letter to her where I laid out the demands in our petition. She asked him to take those demands into consideration. Coincidentally, I have been in contact with Commission Rodriquez already regarding APS signal buttons for our crosswalk. These will take longer than "before schools open in September" but I think it would not be unreasonable to expect speed reducers and physical lane separators coming into the crosswalk to be installed by Labor Day. I will keep you updated.
On a separate note, my antics in the crosswalk have gotten me quite a lot of exposure on Instagram. Over the last weekend, a video posted by WhatIsNewYork of me using a bullhorn to call out the assholes who don't stop at the red light when pedestrians are present got over 700K views. I did three hours of "The Asshole Show" on Saturday and another three hours on Sunday.
The cameras got it all from two angles. Links to the video clips for every day this update covers are below. The links expire in 30 days but you can download them anytime before the link expires.
