As we approach the one-year anniversary of the closure of No Limits Café, it feels like the right moment to reflect on what this campaign has shown.

I started this petition on 23 March 2025 as it became clear that No Limits Café was about to close. My final shift there was on 27 March, and the café closed the following day on 28 March after nearly five years of being part of the community.

Having worked there for nearly five years, I saw first-hand how important a place like this could be. Community spaces are more than buildings – they become part of people’s routines and places where friendships, conversations and connections happen.

For many people, including those who are neurodivergent, spaces like this can be especially important because they offer a sense of belonging and familiarity within the community.

While the closure of No Limits Café sparked this petition, the issue is bigger than one café. Across the UK, communities are facing similar challenges in protecting spaces that bring people together.

Support for this petition has come from across the UK, showing how strongly people value community spaces. A small number of international signatures appeared due to the way online petitions are shared, but the vast majority of support has come from within the UK.

The issues raised by this petition have even been discussed in Parliament, highlighting how important community spaces are to people across the country. As national conversations continue about community empowerment and protecting local assets, it shows why the experiences of real communities matter.

Almost one year after the café closed, the response to this petition shows that the importance of community spaces has not been forgotten.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this campaign so far. Every signature helps keep the conversation about protecting community spaces alive.

If you believe community spaces matter, please consider sharing this petition so more people can join the conversation.
