Well done to all the campaigners throughout the city, you are all making a difference
📢 Your representations have just changed the course of the Sheffield Local Plan examination.
Published today, the Inspectors' latest letter (EXAM 217C) sends the Council back to do more work. The Plan has NOT been signed off.
They've ordered:
✅ Further Sustainability Appraisal and site assessment
✅ A new schedule of Main Modifications
✅ Changes to planning policies and the Policies Map
✅ Another public consultation of at least six weeks
And here's the bit that matters. The Inspectors say their attention was drawn to new DEFRA evidence on agricultural land quality by representations submitted to the examination. By people like you. 🌾
The Council must now redo its assessment of Best and Most Versatile farmland, and justify why it didn't choose poorer quality land instead.
They've also been told to properly assess six urban sites that were put forward but never appraised, because national policy requires all reasonable options to be examined before any Green Belt is released. 🌿
This isn't victory. Our Green Belt is still at risk. But it's proof that well evidenced objections from residents change what Inspectors demand.
Another consultation means another chance for all of us to be heard. We'll share the dates the moment we have them. 💚
