Petition for whistleblower protection in absent teacher case - Malaysiakini
Thank you so much to all of our new signers. YOUR support has reached the attention of national media.
The Tiada.Guru Campaign will also add the Ministry of Education as a respondent to this petition.
Back in April, the Ministry of Education launched its first whistleblower protection policy (link here). However, we recognize a major defect in this policy: protection is REVOKED if the whistleblower's report triggers a disciplinary, civil, or criminal proceeding.
If whistleblowers cannot blow the whistle on issues that are, or may become, under disciplinary, civil, or criminal proceedings, it is not an effective policy.
The MOE, under MP Fadhlina Sidek, and DG Pkharuddin Ghazali, must not allow such loopholes to deny legitimate protection to any whistleblower. Why should whistleblowers ever risk their lives, if protection has such a critical loopholes?
What if a disciplinary proceeding is tainted with false evidence? Should not a whistleblower be given protection? What if, in a corruption trial, an MOE employee has taken actions to circumvent the proceedings?
Cikgu Nurhaizah Ejab MUST be given whistleblower protection by the Ministry of Education.
