Dear Friends,
The vote that was cancelled in a previously adjourned town meeting is finally happening!
We are voting to protect open space on Route 4 (190 Sharon Turnpike). Please be sure to vote, in person or via absentee ballot.
REFERENDUM DATE: August 2nd, from 12-8 pm
The town will hold a town-wide vote (referendum) on August 2nd, at the Goshen Town Hall.
NOTE: You can get an absentee ballot at town hall, and mail in your vote, vs..vote in person!
WHO CAN VOTE? ALL PROPERTY OWNERS IN GOSHEN ... AND THAT MEANS YOU!
There's a lot of confusion on who can vote. This has nothing to do with your place of legal residence. You can vote in this election if you own property in Goshen, even if your Goshen home is a second residence, and not your legal residence.
Per the registrar: If you own a house (or any property -- even a car or boat) in Goshen, valued at more than $1000, and are over 18 yrs. old, you can vote in this referendum.

WHAT ARE WE VOTING ON?
There's a single question on the ballot (shown below). PLEASE VOTE YES!
REFERENDUM QUESTION:
“Shall the Town of Goshen protect the property located at 190 Sharon Turnpike as open space, in
perpetuity, by either maintaining ownership of property and devoting the property to passive recreation
use, or by selling the property to a nonprofit land trust or land protection agency for its fair market
value?”
A 'YES' vote simply means that we want the town to protect the property in perpetuity, either by keeping it for passive use or selling it at fair market value to a land trust.
A 'NO' vote allows the town to keep the property for future unknown reasons, which risks development at a later date.
It's important to vote yes, because in addition to protecting our beautiful open spaces and the character of Goshen, this land contains acres of vital wetlands and is home to extensive wildlife. PLEASE VOTE YES!
WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW:
Please share this email with friends and neighbors, and talk to them in person, to help to get out the vote.
Let people know they can vote on Friday, August 2nd, either in person or by absentee ballot.
Let people know that they can vote even if their Goshen home is a second residence, and not their legal residence, as long as they are a property owner and over the age of 18.
Talking to friends and neighbors in person is especially important, to clear up recent confusion! Please explain what's at stake, how to vote, and ask them to VOTE YES!
Thank you for your support ... Let's get this property protected!!!
Sincerely,
Marissa
