Earlier this week, an adult Gurkha child was in tears on her return to home from her monthly summons to the Home Office.   It has been months since her liberty and freedom is limited, and her rights to work  taken away.  On this visit, she was asked numerous questions alluding she would be sent back to Nepal with her new born baby sometimes soon.

She is the daughter of a proud Gurkha.  All of her family is settled here and she has no one to go to back in Nepal.  She and her British born child will be more vulnerable if sent back to Nepal.  They will have no social securities and family support out there.  The whole family is having a hard time due to this immigration issue faced by one single child.  This issue has financial and emotional implications which is directly impacting the wellbeing of the entire family.

Considering the nature and scale of punishment, it looks like "to be a child of a Gurkha is a crime".  If that Gurkha child has committed the crime of overstaying just to be with her family, can we not reconsider her position based on historic injustice?  Keeping her hostage in her situation is only counterproductive for the family and for this nation.  Why not let her live the life she wants and deserves.  After all, she has contributed in her own little way to our Armed Forces and the communities.  So let us give her amnesty for the crime of being a Gurkha child and overstaying as a result of!
