Hi everyone, Since our last update we have had several more responses to our petition: a letter from Private Secretary to the Taoiseach, Maura Duffy, at the Office of the Taoiseach acknowledging receipt of our letter and informing us that a copy has been sent to the Minister for Health, Simon Harris for attention. We also received a letter from Derek Newcombe, Private Secretary to the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, who forwarded our correspondence to Dr. Katherine Zappone, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs who has already failed to take an interest in our child’s case despite being the Minister for Children. Lastly we received a letter of acknowledgement of receipt of our petition from Clare Brosnan, Private Secretary to Mr Simon Coveney, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade. She told us our correspondence was receiving attention at the moment. On a more positive note, Senator Fintan Warfield, Sinn Fein, did indeed raise the issue at the Dáil like he said he would. He emailed us after the fact and informed us that while he had intended to call a motion calling Minister Harris to explain the delays in Parts 2 and 3 of the Act, rather than losing a vote on it, he withdrew the motion under the assertion that he would be able to meet with Minister Harris in the coming weeks. Senator Warfield intends to bring some affected parents to the meeting if allowed. You can watch the video of the debate here: https://www.facebook.com/fintanwarfield/videos/vb.100753586682821/1746052902152873 That is all we have for you right now. It’s good that the issue was raised in the Dáil and that it’s on their radar. Fingers crossed we can gain more progress with this soon. Amanda and Lesley, x.
