Thank you for signing!

This land is incredibly important to many people due to its rich biodiversity. As you can see in the attached image, Two Mile Lake is just 450 meters (less than half a kilometer) away from the bog. You'll also notice a red line to the north of Two Mile Lake, which marks a "fish stream." I took a closer look on Google Maps from a bird's eye view, and it's alarming to see how close logging has already come to Two Mile Lake, particularly on the east side of the lake.

In addition, I've been doing more research and found that the Forest Practices Board opened a "complaint investigation" towards Mosaic (file 97250-20/23021). Seems Mosaic might not have been complying with the objectives of the Provincial Non-Spatial Old Growth Order.

You can read the Forest Practices Board’s letter here.

The board recommended that TimberWest amend its Forest Stewardship Plan to include a "measurable or verifiable strategy for the recruitment of old forest." This means that there is a required amount of old growth that needs to remain on Quadra Island, but it appears that Mosaic, under TimberWest, may not have been adhering to those requirements.

TimberWest says they have a strategy in place now (looks like Mosaic got to work fast creating this pretty doc this month to prove their point), but if you want to share your voice in this strategy, be sure to make recommendations to their plan by email or in person. More information on how to do that can be found here.

Saving 12-651 could be part of this recruitment of old forest.

PLEASE SHARE and better yet share your feedback by email to jennifer.peschke@mosaicforests.com by April 22, 2025!

Gilakas'la again for your support!
