Hello #SaveBucky supporters, Since my last update we have jumped from 700 to over 1400 strong and even more have liked the Facebook page at Facebook.com/Savebucky. The support continues to grow. It doesn't matter if you are a current student, an alumnus, a former student-athletes, or a member of the RGV community; the impact of the Bronc nickname change will have a negative effect on everyone. I wanted to share a couple of items with you so you know where we are at. 1. We have gotten some negative backlash as you may have guessed from the current SGA president at UTPA. I responded as many of you have seen on the Facebook page. I think he has insulted all of you, the news media, and myself with some of his arrogant and misguided attacks on our campaign. I do however want to say, that if you do agree with him, or do not agree with the response I sent to him; It is your option to pull support. I hope that I am acting in our best interests and will continue to do so. If any of you want to join me you may contact me to help join the fight. 2. We have gotten some negative backlash from a few surprising people. I will not name them, but I have in the last few days been called, "myopic" and "narrow-minded" because I do not want to have change. I have a belief that there is no need to change Broncs from our name. I have outlined those reasons in our petition. I have yet to have someone challenge any of my points, merely name call and give arguments that lack depth or understanding of the true nature of what is happening. I am willing to have a public debate on these issues, I may in the near future make that challenge publicly. However, I will only do it with your approval, and when we are organized as such to do it. 3. I have spoken with two Rio Grande Valley media outlets already. I expect to be interviewed by a few more. This has the potential to explode even further after that exposure. Stay tuned for those updates here. 4. I am organizing some students (if you are a current student and want to be involved e-mail me at IamaBronc@gmail.com) to get the word out. There is an event known as Bucky's Block Party this coming Thursday https://utpa.collegiatelink.net/organization/osi/calendar/details/415876 If anyone wants to go out there and lend their support. Please do so. Many students faculty and staff will be out their promoting their own causes. 5. I have set up a Crowdrise Campaign to raise money... I'd like to be able to use all my time and resources to this.. but they are limited. We will have a T-shirt fundraiser as well but still need to set that up. I will keep everyone updated on how it is being spent The immediate needs are purchasing push cards for students to pass out at the Block Party and athletic events, a website domain and hosting services, purchasing some advertising in local RGV media and potentially Facebook as well. If you want to donate time, or make purchases for some of these things separate of this site... e-mail me and we can coordinate. If it is $5, $10, or whatever it certainly appreciated and will go 100% to the cause. If you only want to sign and be done with it.. no pressure and I thank you for lending your support by signing the petition. 6. If anyone on this list is part of any alumni associations.. will you please contact me. I would like to chat and see if I can send a personal letter (e-mail) to your alumni list to try and grow our campaign even further. The video campaign will begin this week.
