Thank you so much for supporting this petition so far! It's incredibly heartwarming to receive so many signatures so quickly. Given how hard the last 18 months has been for us seeing the comments and support here has been a real shining light to keep fighting.
We haven't had direct correspondence from the government as yet but Steven Marshall was asked point blank on ABC radio yesterday morning why we were being charged 100% of our rent given the situation at hand. His response was along the lines of he can't save every business and we are able to trade at 75% capacity - the second best restrictions in the country. I was interviewed an hour later and explained that on a surface level it is possible to trade at 75% capacity but its only possible if its seated. We can only fit 150 seats in our venue which equates to 25% of its capacity. Dancing is not possible unless it is a private function run by a seperate 3rd party and is capped at 50 people on the dance floor. These are obviously not workable conditions for a live music venue being charged 100% of its rent, not to mention we don't have lease beyond the end of this year.
We are hopeful that given how quickly this is growing we will at some point get at least a meaningful conversation with the government to resolve these issues. Please keep sharing this petition in the meantime!
