7 News misreported in October last year after the findings were handed down in Luke's inquest case, claiming that Luke was running towards police at the time he was shot and killed by them, which is categorically NOT TRUE !!!

After being ignored by the reporter, and 7 News complaints we reported them to the ACMA and they immediately took action then. It’s taken 3 months for them to correct this false allegation but we feel it’s a small win for our family. 

As you know we vehemently dispute the findings because of all the suspicious circumstances surrounding our sons death, including the fact that the cop who killed him allegedly had a prior relationship with our sons girlfriend, and because of all the evidence that has been hidden, tampered with and ignored, which is literally the definition of a cover up.

The findings contain false information, the footage on our social media proves Luke did not increase his pace at all, and even though we gave 7 News the opportunity to set the record straight by showing that footage and reporting the suspicious circumstances as outlined by our family, they opted not to.

However, we are pleased that they mentioned LUKE'S LAW, because if ever there was a case to prove the need to stop police investigating themselves, it’s ours. Our son deserves to have a full and independent investigation into how a cop, who allegedly had a prior relationship with our son’s girlfriend, provoked, harassed, threatened and then killed him. 

We are unable to share the full document as it contains information suppressed by the court but as mentioned in our open letter we are calling for

“The establishment of a National Integrity Unit to investigate all police related deaths and serious injury. This unit will be based on the UK model of the IOPC (Independent Office of Police Conduct). The main principle will be to eradicate police investigating police to ensure thorough and impartial investigations with factual media reporting”

It’s all very well for the police to claim that no coroner in QLD has found any police misconduct in any police shooting for at least 20 years when “the courts are only as good as the information provided to them” 

The truth really shouldn’t be this hard to get !
