Supportive success at last nights BOE meeting

We want to thank our supporters to see the importance on not giving into merely student choices but hopefully discuss and implement other guidelines to stop the decline in students interest in foreign languages overall. More discussions will be put on the agenda in regards to grandfathering in the current students as a bare minimum, so they can finish with 4 years and AP testing in German. This we certainly see as a first wonderful success and are very thankful our voices are heard. As an update I am linking to a document outlining what can be done to help students see the importance of learning languages: http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.aatg.org/resource/resmgr/Promoting_German/Promoting_Language_Proficien.pdf It outlines community, parents, teachers and administration options as how to promote (rather than cut) languages. I can speak only for me but am sure many other foreign speaking parents would join, in that I would be happy to help create a German event to steer interest toward a foreign culture and language or help create actual project correlations with schools and students oversea to spark interest even in different courses (as outlined in this article from a British Teachers Association facing similar issues: https://www.theguardian.com/teacher-network/teacher-blog/2013/may/17/languages-schools-students-gcse-alevels-mfl). Thank you! Daniela Kinsbourne
