UPDATE JANUARY 27, 2024:
TODAY’S THEME IS BIRDS.
I have discovered that BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER. Ontario Facebook Community Group members came to our family’s rescue forming friendships and relationships. They helped save our son’s life!
But we are NOT OUT OF THE WOODS yet! The mentally ill on P.E.I. are SITTING DUCKS, as they are vulnerable and exposed to danger. Why is this? The P.E.I. PC Party sadly had a BLACK SWAN EVENT which is a metaphor that describes an event that comes as a surprise, has a major effect, and is often inappropriately rationalized after the fact of hindsight. They legislated the most restrictive Community Treatment Order in Canada which could cost lives, including our son’s life.
This gives our family and others GOOSEBUMPS, as we are fearful that our loved ones will come off their medications due to anosognosia, and perhaps return to the streets homeless.
I have been getting my DUCKS IN A ROW and building a case for a CTO amendment in the 2024 spring session. I have taken the mentally ill Islanders UNDER MY WING by offering to protect and take care of them by lobbying for the CTO amendment.
Two CTO experts namely Dr. Richard O’Reilly and Dr. John Gray provided me and the P.E.I Government with a BIRD’S EYE VIEW of the situation. They prepared a document titled Evolution and Comparisons, explaining that the proposed P.E.I. CTO would not meet the needs of mentally ill Islanders. Sadly, this document was ignored by the decision makers.
I have been watching the CTO situation LIKE A HAWK, paying close attention to it, and taking action daily with Facebook posts to the politicians and media.
WHAT’S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE GANDER means what is acceptable or beneficial for one person should be available to others. Basically, we should treat people in the same way and give equal opportunities. We need a New Brunswick flexible, BEST IN CANADA CTO to achieve this goal!
A LITTLE BIRDIE TOLD ME that it appears that some of the PC Party members may now be concerned about the decision they made regarding the CTO. Let’s hope the P.C. Party members are like EAGLES who represent wisdom and courage, by doing the right thing, and amend the CTO for Islanders!
A community treatment order ensures that a mentally ill person stays on their medication and provides them with a healthy life in the community. P.E.I. now has a CTO but it is so restrictive that Andrew and many others do not qualify.
I received this post from Cheryl Wertman. "I’m a retired nurse who used to work downtown TO with street involved folks. I’ve seen many Andrew’s and feel CTOs should be much more readily accessible when persons are unable to care for themselves and are at risk of imminent health and danger."

The present CTO is like giving a battery operated truck to a child without the battery. And saying, "The truck is good enough for now, I will give you the battery to operate it after "24" months." The P.E.I. CTO is as useless as this!
In my opinion, I do not believe that the PC Party Ministers and MLAs realized the negative impact the restrictive CTO would have on Islanders, like Andrew and others. I believe in my heart they will amend the CTO in the 2024 Spring Session, because it is the RIGHT THING TO DO!
