I always thought The Examiner, was a publication that printed stories that were helpful to animals. This article, published by Anne Marie Duhon, is very hurtful to dogs in particular. In her article, Ann Marie claims that chaining is better than kenneling. While it is NOT good to have a dog in a 10 x 10, to declare that chaining is a good thing, is simply an outrage! Has anyone ever thought of this? BRING THE DOG IN THE HOUSE! Instead of creating opposition to everyone who has worked so hard to get dogs off chains, she could have made a case against kenneling, and she could have simply made a plea for folks to bring their dog in the house. I have 5 dogs. I am not an Animal Hoarder, and I never had any intentions of taking on 5 dogs. For those of us who rescue, sometimes it is unavoidable. I keep all 5 dogs in the house, and they all sleep in my bed with me. I have to clean constantly, but they are family members. Why can't we encourage more of this or OTHER solutions to kenneling, RATHER THAN ENCOURAGING CHAINING? For real! Seriously! Post a comment to share your thoughts. Some believe that a dog should be on a chain for a brief bathroom break, and many ordinances allow this. What I hate, is when someone tosses a dog out on a chain, and they are there 24/7, during lightning storms, during heavy rains, during snow, during ice, during tornadoes & floods. Most would agree. A kennel is not the solution. There are solutions, but applauding "chainers" isn't one of them! In some areas, the Commissioners or Councilmen, the folks who make the laws, rules & ordinances, will give some lame excuse like "Well, we can't stop people from doing this." Ok, let's think for a moment. Wouldn't that be similar to a lawmaker saying, "Well, people are going to do illegal drugs, we can't stop them." And just letting it be legal because we can't catch them all? Why don't we just make it legal to rob & murder people, since we can't catch them all? I'm being ridiculous of course. But it's the same. Us Animal Advocates, we aren't stupid. WE KNOW we can't catch all the Animal Abusers & Chainers! But wouldn't it be nice if we could just acknowledge on the books that it's not legal?
