In 2020, Christian denominations worked together to ask Mark Latham to submit a bill to:
- protect the Rights of Parents over their children which was being usurped by the current gender diversity laws with regard NSW classrooms,
- to support the Freedom to practice our Christian Faith and
- to preserve the true teachings of our Lord Jesus.

This bill is supported by Archbishop Fisher and the Maronite Submission to Parliament.
In the Catholic Weekly Archbishop Fisher encourages all Catholics to support Mark Latham's bill.

This bill is also in accordance to the CONGREGATION FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION (for Educational Institutions) of the Vatican.
And It is in accordance to Pope Francis’ directives that teaching LGBIT in classrooms is indoctrination. It should not be taught.

Bishop Long of the Diocese of Parramatta’s strong objection against Mark Latham’s bill was exposed by Sydney Morning Herald. This prompted our clergy, Fr John Rizzo to send an email to Bishop Vincent Long that if this is true, he should resign with Greg Whitby.

We call on Bishop Long, VG de Souza and Greg Whitby to resign as they do not serve God nor the Diocese of Parramatta, nor the Catholic church. They are not teaching Catholic Doctrines.
Parents are the steward of their children. This role is God-given. Bishop Long wants teachers like Greg Whitby to assume the roles of parents.
Miranda Devine of the Daily Telegraph summarised the submission of the Parramatta Diocese
“If parents don’t insist that they — not teachers — are responsible for their children’s values and moral development, then they will have only themselves to blame when a brainwashed woke generation turns on them.”
Mark Latham is trying to prevent with a “parental rights” bill that ensures schools cannot teach ideological and political material that is “inconsistent with the wishes and values of parents”.
Latham says his goal is to re-establish “primacy of parents in shaping their children’s development and sense of identity”.
Greg Whitby claims that the bill would make it impossible to teach students Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, As You Like It or Merchant of Venice.
He also makes the concerning assertion that “equity” is central to Australian education. Equity is not the same as “equality”. It is a faddish Marxist code word for “equality of outcome”, as opposed to “equality of opportunity”, and should ring alarm bells when used by educators.
