2,501 Signatures Reached: Now We Take Our Request for Representation Forward

2,501 Signatures Reached: Now We Take Our Request for Representation Forward
We have reached 2,501 signatures.
This milestone gives us a clear public mandate to move from petition mobilization to formal government and parliamentary action.
Our central request remains:
Constituency-mandated seats at government decision-making tables for repatriates and members of the Diaspora living in Ghana.
Policies concerning citizenship, residency, repatriation, identification, fees, documentation and related rights must not be developed without accountable representation from the people directly affected.
This request is especially timely in light of President John Dramani Mahama’s address to the Jamaican Parliament on 4 August 2026, where he stated:
“Repatriation is a right of all persons of African descent to return to the mother continent and settle or reside if they wish.”

The next step is to translate that principle into accountable policy, legislation and representation.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana has formally written to President Mahama, inviting him to speak personally at the Open D.O.O.R. Dialogues. We expect him, upon accepting this invitation, to speak substantively to the issues raised in this petition—including constituency-mandated representation, citizenship, residency, identification and the legal and institutional pathways required to make repatriation a protected right in practice.
The Open D.O.O.R. Dialogues is the national initiative endorsed by the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President, with a specific focus on repatriation.
The inaugural national dialogue will take place on Friday, 30 October 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. GMT, at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Legon. It will include a student opportunity fair and partner exhibition.
Register to attend the Open D.O.O.R. Dialogues:
We are now finalizing the 2,500-signature submission package for presentation to President Mahama, Parliament and the relevant government institutions. The package will include the petition, a formal cover letter and a technical proposal for constituency-mandated seats.
Each receiving office will be asked to provide:
Written acknowledgement of receipt
An official reference number
The name and contact details of the accountable officer
Confirmation of the office or parliamentary body handling the submission
A specific response and implementation timetable
We will also pursue a separate submission to the National Identification Authority concerning the identification and documentation issues affecting the petition constituency.
Reaching 2,500 signatures is not the end of this effort. It is the point at which government must formally answer the constituency’s request for seats (plural) at the decision-making table.
Please continue sharing the petition:
