Update on Patwin Kindergarten for 2024-25 school year
Hello Patwin Supporters,
Thank you for signing the petition and for everyone's involvement in our advocacy efforts to keep two Kindergarten classes at Patwin. Our voice is being heard, and we need to continue speaking up over the summer to keep the pressure on! In a recent email, Superintendent Matt Best wrote, “If enrollment increases over the summer, we may see restoration of classroom sections across the district, which may affect Patwin Elementary.” This means that the District could still change course (which they could do even if enrollment doesn't increase, by the way).
Updates:
- Vice Mayor of Davis and City Council Member, Bapu Vaitla, put out a public statement of support on Facebook urging DJUSD to keep two Kindergarten classes at Patwin. Please “like” and share this great news!
- On Monday, 6/3, about 40 Patwin community members met with Board of Education Member Lea Darrah and shared questions and concerns. Trustee Darrah has shared what she heard with Superintendent Matt Best.
- Patwin community members are meeting with Matt Best and more Board of Education Members in the coming weeks.
Let’s keep the momentum going! Here is how you can stay involved this summer as we advocate for DJUSD to keep two Kindergarten classes at Patwin:
- Spread our petition to friends, family, and community members. 762 signatures and counting!
- Email the Board of Education (boe@djusd.net), Area 1 School Board Trustee Hiram Jackson (hjackson@djusd.net), Superintendent Matt Best (mbest@djusd.net), and also Davis Vice Mayor and District 1 City Council Member, Bapu Vaitla (bvaitla@cityofdavis.org) with your questions, concerns, and ideas about this decision.
- Attend the June 20th Board of Education meeting at 6:30 pm at 23 Russell Blvd. and wear purple! Public comments are welcome so you can share your story, concerns, and solutions.
Thank you for everyone’s support!
